How to go from "I'm not a dress person" to "I love wearing dresses!"

I recently had someone tell me that they wanted a dress from me but they don't wear dresses and didn’t want to buy something they wouldn’t wear.

That is great! We never ever want you to buy something that you are not going to wear. If it is just going to sit in your closet or crumpled on the floor in a dark corner do not buy it.

I always want you ladies to be aware of what does and doesn’t work for your life and to dress appropriately for who you are and your lifestyle.

Having said that, I also want you to know that if you ever DO want to change the way that you dress, it is completely possible, but first you have to decide that you want to do things differently.

I know from my own life- I used to be someone who never wore dresses.

But there came a time for many years where I wanted to wear dresses. I felt bad about myself because I wanted to elevate my style, I wanted to dress in a way that felt more feminine and stylish, more put together, but I did not know how.

So I just started. I decided to change. I didn’t know how or when. But I decided. And the universe responded.

Now I LOVE dresses and wear them all the time.

First things first you have to take a look at where you are now and who you are now. Why don’t you wear dresses?

Is it that you don’t want people to see your legs? Dresses come in various lengths. If you want to show your legs off, get yourself a mini dress. If you only feel comfortable showing your leg below the knee you can get yourself a nice little midi dress. If you don’t want your leg showing at all, you can get a maxi skirt. If you want to show your legs off a little bit but you also want the comfort of length, girl get yourself a hi-lo. It is a party in the front, and all business in the back.

Yeah, I just called the hi-lo the mullet of the dress world. Deal with it.

Next step do you not like to show your arms? Get yourself a 3/4 sleeve or a full length sleeve dress. Otherwise, it's always fun to work a cardigan,a kimono, or a duster over your dress. It can be a lot of fun to play with different lengths, for example a short dress with a very long duster is so cute. A shorter cropped cardigan with a maxi dress - it’s a look. Figure out what works for you.

From there we can also figure out what colors work best for you. If you are becoming dress person but you AREN'T a bright yellow person, do not go out and buy yourself a bright yellow dress, you’re not going to feel comfortable or happy. Only buy dresses in fabrics, colors, and styles that make you feel happy.

Next, my best advice for you is to figure out what style of dress you are drawn to and how that looks on your body.

Do you like body con dresses? I do! I love body con dresses but I do not love how they look on my body, so for me (for now because I’ll never say never when it comes to style) body con dresses are a no-no. Do you love fit and flair dress it? I do! They happen to look great on my body so that’s a win-win, yes please. Do you like a skater dress, do you like mermaid style dress? There are so many different styles of dresses, so many different dress silhouettes, there is most definitely one that will accommodate your style and your shape!

Style is fun, style is meant to be played around with, so if you are not a dress person, I just gave you some tips and some directions on how to become a dress person.

It's all about finding that first dress and then the floodgates break. Next thing you know you’re like me and more than half of your closet is dresses.

So don’t be afraid to go into a store and pick up a few different styles of dresses and see what works. If it doesn’t work, you haven’t lost anything. You actually have more information on what you don’t want, and what you do want. You cannot lose that way.

Last but not least, if you ever see a dress from Zoftig Boutique that you love, that lights you up, and you are like YES I want that dress... BUT you feel like you are not a dress person or you can’t wear that specific dress for whatever reason you have, but you find yourself still coming back to it... reach out to me.

I would be more than happy to show you how you could make that dress fit into your life or if it’s most definitely not for you.
